Today, SMIT Foundation is home to a family of 126 individuals, providing care, shelter, food, and essential support with compassion while working towards a permanent, self-sustaining ecosystem.

Our Story
SMIT began with one woman, one intention, and a simple belief that no person should be left without care, dignity, and support.
Yojana Gharat’s life of service became SMIT’s foundation.
Yojana Gharat is the Founder of SMIT Old Age Home Foundation and has dedicated over 28 years to serving society. Inspired by the values of compassion and care she experienced while growing up at the Missionaries of Charity orphanage founded by Mother Teresa, she devoted her life to helping those in need.
Having worked across different social causes, she realized that the elderly were among the most neglected members of society. This became the starting point of her journey and led to the creation of SMIT.

Many individuals who faced abandonment, domestic violence, acid attacks, and social challenges now stand beside SMIT in creating impact. Through trust, opportunities, and empowerment, they continue helping build a community where every life has dignity and purpose.
